Audrey Tautou

Audrey Tautou was born in Beaumont in Puy de-Domme, France on the 9th of August, 1976. She was the oldest of four children. Her parents who were dental surgeons along with a teacher, recognized and backed her passion for theatre and drama as early as she was a child. This was more important than a desire to be a primatologist due to her obsession with monkeys. Success in the beginning and an immediate increase in recognition made her a promising young actor. In 1998, after completing her studies, she was invited to take part in Jeunes Premiers which is an French TV talent-scouting programme sponsored by Canal+. She also was awarded the top Young Actress prize at the Beziers Festival of Young Actors. This led her to begin her professional acting career. Tautou, who attended in the Institut Catholique de Paris in Paris as a young girl as well as attended the school, has disavowed her Catholic childhood. In addition to acting, she pursued modelling and was the model for L'Oreal Mont Blanc as well as Chanel. She also has a serious photographic passion and has recently put on an exhibit of work at the Arles Festival under the title Superficial. The focus of her photography is stars, fame and media who scrutinized her following her fame-making debut with Amelie. Additionally, there are some photographs of her own self. Audrey Tautou became a star and gained international recognition with her first role in Amelie Poulain in Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amelie. Amelie is a global box-office hit, receiving accolades at award ceremonies around all over the world. It remains the highest grossing French language film to be released in the US. After the release of this film, Tautou starred in a variety of films, from British dramatics, to Jean Pierre Jeunet's Un long dimanche de fiancailles. Then she moved into Hollywood and was in the film with Tom Hanks alongside Ron Howard in The Da Vinci Code.
